Who Has Active Streams using LibreTime?

Just wondering who has been able to set up and run LibreTime on the recommended Server and LibreTime configurations, so we can see what it looks like set up and running? I’ve watched endless videos of folks running the Server and LibreTime within a Virtual Machine. Bit have not seen a totally run System Dedicated to running a Station.
Thanks

Don aka Echo

Hi Don,

I’m running a fully dedicated LibreTime setup (no virtual machine), and it’s been stable for over a year now.

My configuration is:

  • OS: Debian 11 (minimal install)
  • LibreTime: 4.5.0
  • Audio engine: Liquidsoap (default, but tuned)
  • Server: Dedicated VPS (not shared, not virtualized locally)

A few adjustments I made to ensure long-term stability:

  • Fine-tuned Liquidsoap buffers and fallbacks to avoid dropouts
  • Set up AutoDJ with proper track normalization for consistent output levels
  • Configured Icecast with optimized mount points and bitrate settings
  • Automated SSL (Let’s Encrypt) and ensured clean domain routing
  • Added basic monitoring (logs + service auto-restart) for Liquidsoap and LibreTime services
  • Cleaned unnecessary packages for a lean, production-oriented Debian setup

Since then, the system has been running continuously with no major issues — very stable for 24/7 broadcasting.

So yes, a fully dedicated LibreTime server (without VM) works perfectly fine in production.

We (radio-quetsch.eu) run it for more than 2 years now 24/7

It runs on a small Hetzner VPS (CPX21: 3 vCPU, 4 GB RAM). Everything is set up with rootless Podman behind Nginx. I also added an Icecast relay in front of LibreTime’s Icecast server to properly handle SSL and support additional sources.

Thanks for Replying NESS RADIO. I was wondering if anyone was using LibreTime. I’m just wanting to setup a Server for private use. To learn how to set one up. I’m leaving Windows10. And I’m stuck with SAM Broadcaster that I paid $450 dollars for, and now I may have to figure out a way to run it in a VM… Don

I think I should have asked the question: “Who is running LibreTime on any of the Newer Server Distro’s Like Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12?” I’m trying to setup a home version for testing, of which the LibreTime server will run, and I can play with connections from a Linux based VM powered Windows 10 OS with my bought and paid for SAM Broadcaster for live shows. Also wanting to figure how how to auto tag past shows I have done for legal air play through LIVE365. So that royalties can be paid. As I record all my shows I have done over the last 20 years. But that is whole other issue. To replace my SAM there is OpenBroadcaster, which cost the same as my SAM did when I bought it. Another thing I’ve noticed asking questions, that everyone replies, which is great, they state the Software, but they don’t say what kind of system they are using? I’ve got 3 Servers (2008 Vintage) 5 PC’s, and 4 Laptops. Not all working, Power supplies died, or are in need of something else to get them running.
Thanks everyone that posted.

Don

I have had some libretime instances running in production for a fair amount of time now. Maybe 7 years? I used to use airtime and successfully migrated to libretime. I don’t have any docker deployment ‘cause it’s easier for me to fix things during the installation/setup process having direct access to the code. I also don’t have any instance running in ubuntu, only debian 10, 11 and just recently 12 (still not in production but it feels ready)

I just realized the oldest LT I have running doesn’t even have a numeric version, and I’m sure it was upgraded around 2021 and had been running at least 3 years before that.

kosa@lt:~/libretime$ cat VERSION
fba40ea12

Regarding your second question, as I mentioned, I just managed to get it running on debian 12. It’s based on 4.5 but around 100 files needed either big or small changes. Most of them simple iterations to replace php deprecated classes or such. Some files, particularly python scripts, needed more time. And I thought liquidsoap would be challenging but ended up being pretty much straight forward.

All the LT instances I run are hosted in virtual machines using libvirt in an also debian bare metal server. Some have public ip addresses but some others don’t, and there’s no difference.

If you wanna schedule a session where I either share my screen or give you ssh to a vm where we can install it on a debian 11 or 12 vm together, just send a message. Or I can try to record a video, but like 90% of the time would be the installer running. In any case I’m happy to help, and I’m in the -6 timezone.

Hey thanks for replying. I’m trying to get a plan together. I trying to decide whether Ubuntu or Debian is the main OS I want to use. That is stable enough to run VM’s on and in. I had Ubuntu 24.04 Desktop running with Wine running my SAM Broadcaster Pro on, then I updated the OS to 25.04 and the Wine would load my SAM and it wouldn’t work. Got to understand, all my Computers I have are over 6 to 12 years old. And or have been Refurbished. I’m trying to get completely away from Windows altogether. As Windows 11 is spyware, and I don’t need AI to help me do anything. Plus I’ve got $450 dollars tied up in SAM Broadcaster Pro. And they want more for the Update for Windows 11. Going from 7 to 10 cost me !50 dollars in 2018. So I’m pulling my hair out trying to find something that would do what I need it to do. OpenBroadcaster is a option, but that is $299 plus tax to get it and learn how to use it… It runs on a server back bone, and the openbroadcaster is the GUI. So I got to get crap together and figure out what I need to do. Work on LibreTime or just buy OpenBroadcaster as a last resort. Thanks Don aka Echo

depending on the specs I think debian 12 could run fine on a 6yo machine, but you can also spin vps at DigitalOcean, Hetzner ot some other provider for 10 to 15 bucks a month and be all set.
