I didn’t have much of a problem installing LibreTime in the past (5 or 6 years back) but the https requirement befuddles me. I find reverse proxy etc somewhat daunting. Is there an idiots guide on how to do this ? Some basic stuff would be a good start ie
Best version of Ubuntu on which to run the latest LT
Do I install LT and then add https afterwards ?
Is the docker install procedure the best way to go about this ?
Paul, I’ve been having the same issues. I’m a novice at Linux myself. It’s been awhile. It suggest here that you use Ubuntu 20.04 Server or Debian 11 but both Distros are not supported anymore. Yes there are not updates here for LibreTime to work on the latest Server Distro’s. Activity logs on here are around are almost 10 years old. I’m a Windows guy from back in 1990. Windows 3.11. Now that Windows 10 is unsupported. And Windows 11 is just flat out Spyware. I’m looking for alternatives. I have SAM Broadcaster Pro 2018.4, I had to buy that update to use it on Windows 10. Total of $450 dollars invested. And installing it on Windows 11 there is another update that cost another $150 to use it. None of my machines are able to run Windows 11 anyway, they all work. Not Junking them over Windows 11. I’m currently looking at “Openbroadcaster”, does the same thing at my SAM Broadcaster Pro does, but it is all Linux. Runs on the latest Ubuntu Server Distro. I think it still requires a Static IP Address/Fire Wall Setup. That is where I was having issues to. As LibreTime GUI is attached to that Static IP address to finish the configuration of it… Hope this Helps Don
The install process is now so tiresome with LibreTime. I currently use Azuracast as their docker install onto a VPS is a breeze and it automatically provides https. It is however so clunky on scheduling that I use it more as a glorified icecast installation.
I switched 4 years ago to RadioDJ which does everything .. except run on linux. So I have windows 10 laptops running RDJ outputting to Azuracast. The activity in this forum is now also quite low. I’m guessing that the issues people have installing it and setting up a reverse proxy is a key part of this. LT is v good for a 1 station set up, way better than Azuracast in terms of ease of scheduling but this is irrelevant if so few people are installing it and running it.
I have one station that still runs it on http. It was installed 5 years ago. I want to upgrade it to run https but the problems people have doing that, as shown in several threads here on the forum, means I cannot spend the time.
BTW RadioDJ is way better than SAM and comes at a great price … free.
It would be good if someone with the skill could take the opensource LT code, throw it in an AI app builder and get it to fix the install, https and host of other tweeks that need to be added. Or maybe I am talking nonsense,
I’ve used LT since 2014 but not much for the last 5 years for the reasons above.
Thx for responding.
PS Another linux option that will run on a Linux VPS is Rivendell Radio. I’ve just acquired a linux PC and aim to test it out. OpenBroadcaster looks good but as with Rivendell I have no experience using it.
Hey Paul, I totally understand. I have been looking hard for the last year for a Linux Solution. I to am on Windows 10 too. EUS. But anyway, SAM Broadcaster Pro cost me $200 dollars in 2008. As I was using WinAmp to do my Internet Radio Shows with (Vista didn’t have the DSP’s). So it wouldn’t work so I looked around for Broadcasting software and found SAM. Been using it ever since. Now as for LibreTime, I couldn’t get it work either.
But I have found something else I am going to Try… OpenBroadcaster. And it runs on Newer Server Distros. I need to sort out a system that I can run it on. Possible VM running in a Linux Desktop. I know it can be done, cause I had 4 VM’s running 2 Servers and 2 OS’s all Windows based in Virtual Machines, it wasn’t till I fired up a 5 VM than my work station locked up..
